Dr. Jimenez is now a professor and head of Thoracic Surgery Department at Salamanca University Hospital. Director of the Robotic Surgery Programme at Salamanca University Hospital. Director of Simulation and Experimental Surgery at Salamanca University School of Medicine.

Dr. Jimenez graduated from the Granada University School of Medicine in 1985 and he completed residency in general thoracic surgery at the University Hospital “12 de Octubre” Madrid in 1991 them he went to Toronto General Hospital to study as visiting scholar.

He is an active member or has participated in numerous committees of several national and international scientific societies of Thoracic Surgery, Respiratory and Oncology.

Dr. Jimenez has extensive experience in minimal invasive surgery for lung cancer and in the surgical and multidisciplinary management of patients with complex thoracic oncological diagnoses (lung cancer, oesophageal cancer, mesothelioma, mediastinal and chest wall tumors). He is actively involved in research and leads a number of research programs that study various VATS and robotic training skills. Dr. Jimenez is involved in the development of VATS surgery through his active participation to the research of preop planification and intraoperative a localization of lung tumors with innovative tools like 3D image and Electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy.

He has authored and co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed international scientific papers and book chapter and coordinated several studies.
