Ryoichi Nakanishi, MD, PhD

Dr. Nakanishi is a Professor and Chairman in the Department of Oncology, Immunology and Surgery at Nagoya City University Graduate School of Medical Sciences, and is the Head of the Thoracic Surgery and Oncology Center at Nagoya City University Hospital, Nagoya, Japan. 

He received his medical degree from University of Occupational and Environmental Health in 1985. After completing his resident training on general surgery and thoracic surgery, he was promoted to Assistant Professor in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at University of Occupational and Environmental Health. He subsequently served 16 years as a chief of the Department of Thoracic Surgery in Shin-Kokura Hospital, Federation of National Public Service Personnel Mutual Aid Associations, and was appointed to his present post in 2015. 

He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers in English on lung cancer, tracheal reconstruction, transplantation and other fields of thoracic surgery, including those published in Thorax, European Respiratory Journal, CHEST, Journal of Thoracic Oncology, Annals of Surgery, Journal of Heart & Lung Transplantation, Journal of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery and Annals of Thoracic Surgery. 

His clinical interests include thoracoscopic surgery for locally advanced lung cancer. Development of techniques in sleeve bronchoplasty and pulmonary arterioplasty is studied using 3-ports thoracoscopic devices.
